Pray For Those Affected By The Landslide

It was heartwrenching to see so many houses being swept away by landslides, houses dangling in the air, when the earth moved from beneath their foundations in California.

Our thoughts and prayers go to them, asking for God's protection of those who are rendered homeless because of this calamity. And that He protect and preserve this part of the earth.

Seeking Your Prayers

Tonight, as a pastor, I feel out of my wits. Many of my sheep are in need of God's healing touch. So I am reaching out to the rest of the flock seeking your powerful prayers for their health and well being.

I need your prayers for a person who has resigned to let go of his life and spending last few days on this earth, after having been treated by so much of chemotherapy. I feel for his family to accept such a difficult decision. I need your prayers for people who are undergoing surgery in the hospital tomorrow morning.

Heavenly Father,
You know our thoughts and minds and bodies. Let your Holy Spirit support and sustain, heal and comfort them through these moments of their surgery. Thou knowest us Lord through and through. Be near those who are in need of thy loving touch right now. In Jesus' name we pray. AMEN.

Just as I was typing this tonight, I receive a call from my brother that he has problems with the heart.

I know that God is near to us than we can imagine. He will continue to care for us. I entrust everyone in His loving hands tonight as I retire to rest.

Pope John Paul II - Great Apostle of Christ

It is very sad indeed to see the ailing Pontiff stand at the window and bless the crowd. It is heartening to see him struggle to speak as his hands raised in blessing the thousands.

We join the millions in our prayers for this great apostle of Christ. He has been the travelling pope, pilgrim pope and the compassionate one. We pray for God's holy will to accomplish. Let us join him in union of our prayers as we pray: Thy will be done !

Update on Stephen C. Reber III

We just received this update on the condition of the Bishop's grandson.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ;

Little Stephen went through his heart surgery quite well. He is now in ICU and his condition seems stable. The doctors during the four hour operation found more repair needed than anticipated. His little heart had two holes in need of mending.

I know the outpouring of prayers have been many. The Bishop and his family are most appreciative. The upcoming days are critical and your continued prayers are requested.

I, of course, will keep you informed;

Fr George

Fr. David Reagan Passes Away

We regret to inform you that Rev. Canon David Reagan of Castle Rock, Colorado died of brain aneurysm last night. Fr. Reagan has been a spiritual counselor and advisor to several priests including other denominations, like AMIA and our own Deanery of the Ozarks, and has visited our deanery during the ordination of Jim McTaggart to the deaconate, Fr. John Hunter's church in Pittsburgh, Kansas and Deacon Sam Seamon's parish in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Rev. Reagan has personally helped me with discussion in Anglican Tradition, constantly being the email ambassador with his Friday Phunnies and updates on Global Church happenings. He has helped in sending resource books for the library in Philippines. As Bishop Reber put it -- quoting the words of our Lord -- "He is an Israel in whom there is no guile."

We gratefully acknowledge Fr. Reagan's services to UECNA and God's kingdom and offer our heartfelt condolences to Paula Reagan and family. Let us keep them close to our heart.

Eternal Rest grant unto Fr. Reagan O Lord and let your perpetual light shine upon him. May His soul rest in peace. Amen.

November 2nd -- All Souls Day

WE REMEMBER OUR DEARLY DEPARTED ON ALL SOULS DAY.

We remember with gratitude all those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, especially two whom we lost within the past few months:

Peggy Swindells and J B Taylor

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpertual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen

Here is the tribute from Bill Winkleman to J B TAYLOR:

William Winkleman is the son of Bill and Pat Winkleman, who both played a great role in the beginnings of St.Gabriel's along with the founding members. His mother Pat is the head of St. Gabriel's Altar Guild. William fondly remembers J B Taylor.

Reverend and Dear Sir:

Sorry that it has taken me so long to get around to your email.

Should you have the opportunity, please convey my deepest sympathies to
the Taylor family. I spent a lot of time with J B back in the days when we were moving St. Gabriel's to your present location. He did a lot or hard work for the Church, and despite many difficult and frustrating obstacles, J B Taylor always completed his objectives with an admirable and infectious "esprit de corps."

I will always remember the day that I spent with him when we went down to buy the Church's pews at a federal auction. We rented a Ryder truck and drove several hours to our destination. I guess neither one of us realized just how heavy those pews would be. It was a job for which we should have had four men at a minimum. After loading the first couple of pews onto the truck, we were ready to quit. You would not believe how tired we were after loading all of them. J B was considerably older than I, and I was dead tired. We make the trip back to Fayetteville, and when J B dropped me off at our house the truck got stuck in the drainage ditch in the front yard. To make things even worse, J B threw his back out from all of the heavy lifting. As I remember, he was several weeks in recovering.

Once those pews were set up in the Church, most folks thought that the place was beginning to look like a "real" church for the first time. I had to admit that they were right, but even so, it was a year of so before J B or I could look at those pews without feeling a twinge of pain in our backs.

I remain, Reverend Sir, your faithful servant in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,

William Winkelman

Prayer for Those in Danger of the Storm - Bishop Reber

THOU, O LORD that stillest the raging of the sea;
Hear us and save us; that we perish not.

O blessed Saviour; that didst save thy disciples ready to perish in a storm:
Hear us, and save us, we beseech thee.

O LORD, hear us.
O CHRIST, hear us.
LORD, have mercy upon us.
CHRIST, have mercy upon us.
LORD, have mercy upon us.

God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit
Have mercy upon us.
Save us now and evermore.

Amen

Take the name off the list?

It's nice to hear someone tell you to take their name off the Prayer List because they are well. Isn't it amazing what Prayer can do? I believe in the prayer of intercession, for when two or three of us gather in His name and ask, it is granted. Prayers do wonders. They heal, they support, uphold, bring clarity, and accompany someone through difficult journies.

In this sense, we are our brothers' keepers, and we have a right to support each other in prayer. During one of my visits Jan told me, "we will be there at St. Gabriel's to show our appreciation and gratitude." She did get well and she came -- not just herself, but her entire family. This is another confirmation that when we agree together and ask the Good Lord, He delivers what we ask. And in our circle, what goes around comes around -- the more we give, the more we will receive.
