Temple of the Holy Spirit

A reflection this morning on 1 Corinthians 3:16, invites us to the constant awareness of who we are and who others are and therefore how we ought to treat one another. "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you" makes us question ourselves as Christians and pastors as to the reality of God's presence in others and in ourselves."

A quote from Phillips Brooks resonates so well with this scripture verse: "Slowly, through all the universe, that temple of God is being built. Wherever, in any world, a soul, by free-willed obedience, catches the fire of God's likeness, it is set into the growing walls, a living stone. When, in your hard fight, in your tiresome drudgery, or in your terrible temptation, you catch the purpose of your being, and give yourself to God, and so give Him the chance to give Himself to you, your life, a living stone, is taken up and set into that growing wall...Wherever souls are bring tried and ripened, in whatever commonplace and homely ways--there is God hewing out the pillars for His temple."

Lord, may we realize who we are in thy sight and who we ought to be to one another. Give us thy grace and the realization thereof. That's enough for us.

"And in him, you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit." Ephesians 2:22
