HOLY SEASON OF LENT
As the ash is smeared on our foreheads, "Remember O man/woman, dust indeed thou art and it is to dust you shall return" It reminds us of the fact that we are like flowers and grass upon the face of the earth. The flowers will wither and grass will fade and so will our lives. In the last analysis, all of us born must die. Death would have had no meaning had not Christ died and rose again.
The season of Lent is a call to holiness. To savor the mercy of God who loved me and gave Himself for me. It means to deny all that is dark and sinful in our lives and align ourselves with the grace and freedom the Divine Forgiveness offers us. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for our sins. So, its time to make a U turn and return back to our God who is slow to anger and abounding in mercy as the prophet Joel records.
